What is cultural competence? Here's a definition and overview.

Cultural competence is a relatively new concept. Many academic fields, universities, non-profits and corporations tout the term, but what does it even mean? What is cultural competence?

What Does The Bible Say About Face Covering? Is It A Sin?

Would Jesus wear a mask? What the Bible says about wearing a mask

What does the Bible say about face covering or mask wearing?

5 Benefits of Cultural Competence in Everyday Life

Over the past decade, we have seen the conversation of culture, cultural competence and cultural diversity grow exponentially. However, between experiences of cultural injustice, cultural appropriation and redefining patriotism, discussing the benefits of cultural competence has somehow begun to trigger feelings of a burden rather than of excitement or appreciation.

Before you roll your eyes and completely dismiss the idea of becoming culturally competent, know that there are, in fact, personal reasons to become culturally competent.

the depths of her surfacing emotions are oceanic — her current joys tide

So I guess it's #NationalParkWeek? 🌎 TBH, befo So I guess it's #NationalParkWeek? 🌎

TBH, before this past year, I would have much rather ditched the park/hiking scene to explore big cities. The bustling metros, the chaotic traffic sounds and sirens, the locals' chill attitudes — I love everything about city culture.

Although I am still definitely a big city girl at heart, I can confidently say that the travel restrictions have given me a new adoration for all of the natural wonders that this beautiful Earth has to offer.

In fact, since our latest road trip, I have now visited 13 US National Parks. 😳 I know this number isn't super impressive, but 2019 Indigo would have neverrrrr.

And, I want to visit more this year.

Which National Park should I explore next? How many have you been to?!
Took a road trip to Utah and ended up on Mars. 🪐

I still cannot believe this place is real: a candy-coated middle-of-nowhere patch of bright aqua, purple, white and maroon rolling hills.

It honestly felt as though someone had planted these hills here as a prank, just to see our childlike awestruck reactions. I will never forget this day. 🌞
Utah keeps blowing me away. 🌬 Instagram versus Utah keeps blowing me away. 🌬

Instagram versus realityyy. 😩😩🤣 There are so many natural masterpieces in this state that I cannot wait to share — including these incredible salt flats that were maybe slightly hard to enjoy because of a wind storm. Very worth the chaos though.

Have you been to Utah?
How to take better photos when traveling part thre How to take better photos when traveling part three: get up before sunrise. 🥲
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I get it, I'm definitely more of a sunset person too, but if you want to take better travel photos, sunrises are a requirement at least some of the time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not only will you be rewarded with the beauty of said sunrises, but you'll also get to avoid the daytime crowds (AKA no tourists in the background of your pictures anymore!).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are you naturally a sunset or sunrise person?
How to take better photos when traveling (even as How to take better photos when traveling (even as an amateur) PART TWO:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. Add some element of motion into the photo (could be as simple as walking, gazing, running or the wind blowing).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
7. Edit to ENHANCE the colors and lighting of the photo, NOT to completely change them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
8. Use props like hats, jackets, suitcases, food or pretty much anything else to help tell your story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
9. Add your own personality into the photos! And be sure to match your facial expressions with the tone of the destination.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Have a distinct foreground, middle ground and background in the photo.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Should I post a part three? Save this for later and visit the link in my bio to get all the tips & tricks. ✨
How to take better photos when traveling (even as How to take better photos when traveling (even as an amateur) PART ONE:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Make the photo more about the scenery and less about you. A good rule of thumb is to only take up 10% of the photo so the other 90% can show off the destination.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Get to know your camera and all of its manual functions (smartphones included)!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Learn basic photography rules, such as the rule of thirds, framing and leading lines (all of which I’ll talk about in this week’s blog post).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Avoid touristy poses like jumping or just smiling at the camera.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Try to tell a story with the photo! Are you relaxing on a luxury island resort or trudging up a mountain through a thick forest?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Save this post for later travels and stay tuned for part two. 📷🎞
I guess you could say traveling puts me on cloud 9 I guess you could say traveling puts me on cloud 9. 🌞 Did you know that the desire to travel could actually be genetic?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Research suggests that the DRD4-7R gene (a mutation of the DRD4 gene, which controls rewarding dopamine levels associated with pleasure and achievement) enables the human desire to take risks, to gain new exciting experiences, and for newness and change.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The gene has since been dubbed the "wanderlust gene," and researchers assume that 1 in every 5 people have the it built into their DNA.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you think you have the gene? I'm 99.9% sure I do.

Like I've said before, never be afraid of explorin Like I've said before, never be afraid of exploring a road labeled "dead-end." You might even find a secret beach all to yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(We've quite literally found 10+ hidden coastlines in the past year from doing this. You could call it good luck... Or good adventure.)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tip for finding hidden beaches: check your GPS for nearby bodies of water while you're on the road. If you see a street that has a dead-end by the water, DRIVE IT.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Happy hunting. 🌞
