Kenny and I have been hooked on the @skinwalker_ranch saga for years, so when we saw these spiral petroglyphs in Valley Of Fire State Park, we were a little starstruck (and maybe just a little spooked lolol).

According to Native American legend, a spiral petroglyph can represent and mark the location of an interdimensional portal into the spiritual world.

Yes, you read that right. 😳

But, the spiral is also known to symbolize the cyclical nature of life, sun, sky, cosmos, migration patterns, wind or even snakes.

Until I started exploring the Southwest USA, I thought massive sand dunes were exclusive only to world renowned deserts like the Sahara.

But, the truth is, the Southwest has loads of dune fields. Death Valley National Park alone is home to five dune fields: Eureka, Saline Valley, Panamint, Ibex and the Mesquite Flat!

Tips for visiting sand dunes:

1. Plan extra time for hiking. Every step you take up, you slide a half step down. 🥾

2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. People die on desert hikes every year from dehydration and heat exhaustion.

3. Visit at sunrise or sunset to avoid the heat!
