I’ve been to three of the Hawaiian islands now (Maui, Kauai and the Big Island), and I have to admit, Kauai might just be my favorite so far. Maui is a close second!

🥾Best hiking: Mount Rainier National Park
🚗Best for road trips: Olympic National Park
🌲Best view points: North Cascades National Park

Mount Rainier National Park has a lot of bucket-list-worthy trails. If you’re up for a fantastic day hike, I highly recommend hiking to Mount Fremont Fire Lookout. This 6-mile out-and-back hike takes just about three hours to complete. You’ll be rewarded with an iconic view of Mount Rainier from a wooden fire lookout, which is particularly spectacular at sunrise or sunset.

Olympic National Park is one of the most diverse national parks in the United States. As such, there is a ton to do and see — from hiking mountains to exploring rainforests to relaxing on beaches.

Much of the North Cascades is only accessible by backpacking and overnight hikes. But, there is still plenty to see in one span of daylight. Diablo Lake Overlook should be at the top of your Washington view point bucket list when in North Cascades.

Mount Fremont Fire Lookout without any lookout. 💀🌫️

Truth is… We have had BAD luck on our hikes this year, with 80% of them getting fogged out. But, that doesn’t stop us from trying again. 🥾

Even though we didn’t see the epic view of Mount Rainier from this fire lookout like we were supposed to, this hike is still one of our favorite hikes in the USA to date!

Hike: Mount Fremont via Sourdough Ridge
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 6.22 miles
Trail type: Out-and-back
Elevation gain: 1250 feet
Estimated time: 3 hours and 15 minutes

If you’re up for a fantastic day hike, I highly recommend hiking to Mount Fremont Fire Lookout. The elevation gain is pretty gradual and spread out throughout the whole hike, which is super nice.

We will be back someday to hopefully see the iconic Mount Rainier view with a cloud inversion. ☁️
