This flight was actually so smooth. We had great weather, and — more importantly — WiFi.

You could say the flight ~flew~ by.

We spent about 5 hours flying from northeast Wisconsin to Cheyenne, Wyoming, for my uncle’s Air Force Change Of Command.

Would you fly cross country in a tiny plane? ✈️

10 non-negotiable USA national parks to visit this 10 non-negotiable USA national parks to visit this summer!

When I started visiting the national parks, I quickly realized that many national parks are seasonal. While the park entrances and overlooks may be open year-round, there are definitely better and worse times to visit some of them.

For example, if you try going to the mountains in fall through early spring, some of the hiking trails and roads will be closed due to snow.

On the flip side, if you try going to the desert in summer, you’ll be battling that fatal heat.

So, these are 10 of the best US national parks to visit in summer!

Skamania Lodge Review

Centrally located along the Columbia River Gorge, Skamania Lodge has plenty in store both inside and outside of the resort property. The property is conveniently located just 20-40 minutes away from Oregon’s most iconic waterfalls, including Multnomah Falls and Latourell Falls.

Overall, this resort exudes wellness, and it is without-a-doubt a fantastic location for a peaceful, rejuvenating retreat. Whether you’re craving submersion into nature or a romantic mountain getaway, Skamania Lodge will deliver. If you prefer a quite sunrise to a wild night out, this property is for you.

The property offers an impressive array of amenities, both complimentary and paid, which we’ll dive into in more depth later on in this review. For example, at Skamania Lodge, you can stay in a luxury mountain hotel with a fabulous lobby, or you can glamp in one of the resort’s many modern tree houses or canvas glamping tents (making this the perfect accommodation for visitors who love nature but don’t appreciate bugs or dirt).

Skamania Lodge Tree Houses

The Skamania Lodge tree houses are well-maintained modern cabins on stilts that hold a variety of amenities, including a small kitchenette; complimentary coffee, coffee and hot cocoa; complimentary s’mores supplies; bathrobes; a cooler and ice; family-friendly board games; a private fire pit; and more.

If you’re an adult who’s craving both the nostalgia of your childhood summer camp as well as an effortless luxury getaway, you will love the Skamania Lodge tree houses.

Skamania Lodge Restaurants

If you wish to dine on property during your stay at Skamania Lodge, plan to eat well. The Skamania Lodge restaurants on property are fantastic, fully equipped with five-star foods, five-star views and smiling staff members. My husband and I looked forward to every meal we had onsite, especially breakfast in the Cascade Dining Room. Nothing beats a generous stack of flapjacks, drizzled with a decadent strawberry rhubarb sauce and brown sugar crumble, while seated next to a sunny view of the Columbia River Gorge.

We were also able to partake in dinner in the Cascade Dining Room (delicious steak), dinner in the River Rock Lounge (definitely request outdoor seating for sunset) and a fancy boxed lunch through the resort’s Skamania To-Go service. Although expensive for a boxed lunch, Skamania To-Go is both delicious and super convenient for days out exploring the gorge.

To play devil’s advocate, at each of the restaurants, you get what you pay for. Meaning, you will have fabulous food onsite, but you should also expect to pay at least an average of $50 USD per person per meal with non-alcoholic drinks. Our nice steak dinner in the dining room cost my husband and I over $200 USD. A high quality palate equals high prices here.

Resort Activities + Amenities

In addition to unique accommodations and incredible dining, Skamania Lodge also boasts a large variety of onsite activities and amenities. Some of these activities are complimentary to resort guests. Whereas, some activities require an additional fee and reservation. The complimentary activities include but are not limited to: hiking/walking trails, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, saunas, an indoor pool, backyard lawn games, a fitness center with Peloton bikes and more. Fee activities offered include but are not limited to: aerial ropes course, zip lining, golf, mini golf, disc golf and a full-service spa.

My personal favorite activities were, one, the outdoor hot tub with a pleasant view of the mountains and, two, the hiking/walking trails that swirled through the property’s green golf courses. Furthermore, we overheard several families fly down the zip lines and climb through the ropes course, which sounded like loads of fun.

Overall, both my husband and I absolutely loved our stay at Skamania Lodge, and I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxury retreat into the mountains. Ready to book your stay at Skamania Lodge? Easily check availability and book here.
