1. Tennis Dresses
Starting with tennis dresses, you probably know Halara from their tennis dresses going viral on social media — and for good reason. These tennis dresses are super high quality with great buttery activewear material. They’re not see-through at all, stretchy enough that you feel comfortable walking and moving in them, and they’re so cute that they look like an actual dress.
Another fantastic feature about a lot of Halara’s activewear dresses is that they have what Halara calls the “easy peezy” edition of their dresses. Basically, this means the attached shorts are half detached, which makes them super easy to take off when you have to go to the bathroom. This way, you don’t have to completely undress when you’re in a public restroom or in a pit toilet — or worse, when you’re literally on the side of a mountain in a bush completely exposed. Definitely get one of these “easy peezy” editions so that you don’t have to completely expose yourself if you need to go to the bathroom while you’re on the trail.
Bonus, Halara is graciously giving my audience 15% off full-priced items with code Indigo15 at checkout.
2. Gold Bond Friction Defense
Now, before I move on to the next cute hiking outfit idea for women, you may be thinking, if you’re anything like me, “Indigo, there’s no way that I will possibly wear a dress or short shorts while hiking because my thighs will rub together.” I feel you. But, have no fear because I have the perfect solution: the Gold Bond friction defense stick.
This stick works wonders. I used to wear jeans and full-length pants everywhere, even in Florida, because otherwise my thighs would painfully rub raw. This thing literally is a miracle worker. I don’t know what’s in it. Liquid gold, apparently. Because, it actually does keep your thighs from chafing. And, it’s super affordable at around $5-10 USD. Rub some of this stick on your inner thighs, and you will be good to go in your cute little tennis dresses or this next idea for cute hiking outfits for women.
3. Tennis Skirts
A tennis skirt would make super cute, unique women’s hiking outfit essential. Plus, it’s super comfortable, has the same great material as other similar activewear and would be super cute with a crew neck or other activewear top, such as the tops I’m about to show you. Of course, tennis skirts come with built-in shorts that also have a pocket which is perfect for hiking.
4. Matching Activewear Sets
Next, the easiest way to elevate your women’s hiking outfits is to get matching activewear sets. I can guarantee that you will look 100% put-together, matching, ready for photos and ready for conquering the mountains if you’re wearing a matching activewear set. Most activewear tops are padded, so you don’t have to wear a bra or sports bra underneath. You’re good to go for any hike with the padding.
5. Cute Hiking Boots
If I’m being honest, most hiking boots are chunky, heavy and very granola. It’s hard to find a good pair of hiking boots that are supportive, comfortable, high-quality and still look good with your cute hiking outfit. I have two pairs to recommend to you. First are my old Timberland hiking boots. They are similar size to a tennis shoe even with the ankle support. They’re very slim, not chunky at all, and very lightweight while still providing that ankle support that you need while hiking.
I just replaced these Timberland’s (they have basically zero traction on them now from wear) with these ivory Columbia hiking boots. I didn’t choose Columbia over Timberland for any particular reason. I mainly just loved the color of these boots. Plus, they match my new hiking jacket, which I’m going to show you later. Anyways, these boots are basically the same — super lightweight if not lighter than the Timberlands. Even though they look a little bit bigger, they are lighter if anything. They’re very padded on the inside, have a lot of ankle support and are very sturdy. They come with cute pink laces, which is fun, and I like that they’re a lighter color that won’t look dirty.
6. Outdoor Sandals
Next, I want to bring up outdoor hiking sandals but not necessarily to hike in. I personally don’t want my feet exposed to the elements when I’m hiking. I prefer boots, and I prefer to be covered. But, I swear by my Teva Verra sandals because when you get back to the trailhead and into your car, your feet are tired, swollen, sweaty, and you just want to rip off your hiking boots and let your feet breathe. It’s so nice to change into sandals after a hike.
I have worn my Teva Verra sandals for probably 10 years now. I’ve worn them out, I’ve repurchased them three times, and I love having them on every hiking trip. They are also waterproof, which is perfect for when they get dirty if you do wear them on the trail. You can wash them super easily anywhere. Otherwise, a pair of Birkenstocks will work just as well too.
7. Packable Insulated Down Jacket
Here, you’ll find some cute hiking outerwear. Maybe you’re hiking somewhere cold in the morning and at night, or you’re hiking in fall, spring or winter. Either way, you’re going to need a jacket. I just picked up this super cute ivory colored packable insulated down jacket from Colombia.
I got this one in particular because it has a hood, which is essential when you’re in the face of extreme temperatures, but also because it is completely packable. It feels really thick and warm when you have it on, but it’s super lightweight, compact and packable. You don’t have to worry about using extra space in your suitcase because it is literally designed to be packable. It’s designed to not take up space in your suitcase. Plus, like I mentioned, it is the same color as my hiking boots, so they match perfectly, which will be really cute on the trails.
8. Bug-Repellent Clothing
Here’s a hiking essential that’s so good I wish I would have known about it sooner. This sweatshirt from L.L. Bean just looks like a completely normal sweatshirt on the outside. But, wait for it. It’s bug repellent. Yes, it is an insect repellent sweatshirt, and it actually works really well. I never go hiking without this sweatshirt because I love nature, I love the outdoors, I love a good view, but I hate bugs. So, if you’re like me and you love nature and hiking but hate bugs, Then, you need to pick up one of these bug repellent sweatshirts. I’ve hiked in the Grand Tetons with it, I’ve hiked in the Rocky Mountains with it, I live in Wisconsin which is mosquito haven in the summer. I wear this on summer nights, and it really works.
They also make a pair of socks that are bug repellent, which work great. However they are wool, and I have recently learned since buying them that I’m allergic to wool. So, sadly, I cannot wear the socks anymore without breaking out into hives and a rash. But, they work and are exceptionally great for hiking in places that have high tick populations. These socks will keep your ankles and feet protected from ticks, and, therefore, Lyme disease. So, I definitely recommend the socks, too. I just can’t wear them, unfortunately.
9. Compression Socks
Speaking of socks, you will need to wear a pair of socks with your hiking boots no matter what kind of socks they are. And these socks are a great option. They look like just regular white crew socks, but they’re actually compression socks. These are perfect for any physical activity because they keep blood circulating in your feet and legs while you’re moving in order to prevent any swelling that might happen on your hike.
10. Wide Brim Hats
Moreover, let’s talk about accessories. Accessories are a super easy way to elevate your outfit when you’re hiking. Plus, the following accessories are also super practical, functional and helpful while you’re hiking. First, let’s talk about wide brim hats. I have a variety of wide brim hats because they look fantastic in hiking photos. One, they’re great props for photos. Additionally, they’re great for keeping the sun out of your face, eyes and skin.
And, as gross as it may sound, the lining of hat will catch any hairline sweat that you may accumulate on your hike. That way, it doesn’t drip down your face. It’s gross, but it’s true. When you want to look cute, you don’t want sweat dripping down your face, and a hat will keep that from happening.
I’ve found some really affordable wide brim hats from Forever 21. They can get really expensive, but the ones I got at Forever 21 were $20 USD or less. Other wide brim hats I’ve seen on the market cost well over $100 USD.
11. Baseball Hats
If you don’t want to go out and buy a wide brim hat, or don’t want to wear one on your hike, you can just opt for a cute baseball cap instead. A baseball hat does the same thing. Basically, it will act as a prop in photos, keep the sun out of your eyes, keep the sun out of your face and keep sweat from dripping down your head. As you can see, baseball hats work just as great too.
12. Sunglasses
Next is a pair of trendy sunglasses. I swear by Zenni for buying both my glasses and prescription sunglasses because they’re so cheap. I’ve gotten prescription sunglasses for less than $15 USD from Zenni. Honestly, I don’t even know how they make glasses so cheap. And, they’re cute. Anyways, even a simple pair of cute sunglasses that can make your women’s hiking outfit a lot more established and styled.
13. Hoop Earrings
Likewise, you do not have to go big on the earrings here. You can definitely wear studs or mini hoops, and they will make your hiking outfit look a bit more styled. But, for me, I love these hoops from Pavoi on Amazon. They’re the only gold-plated hoops that I’ve tried so far that have not worn down, tarnished and ultimately made my ears feel sore.
14. Bandanas
Furthermore, bandanas are a great way to add a little bit of spice to your hiking outfit. You can tie them around your hairline, neck, head, wrist… You can really wear them anywhere. Like hats, you can use the bandanas to wipe sweat away from your face if you need to throughout the day, which makes this hiking accessory both cute and practical. I got these simple, cheap bandanas from Amazon — one in black and white for our Arizona trip — and I really think that they did a great job at just adding a little bit of something to my activewear sets to make the sets look more styled.
15. Hairstyles
Finally, don’t be afraid to play with cute hairstyles before your hike. If you know how to braid, do a braid — Dutch braid, French braid, etc. If you want to do a cute bun or curl your bangs, or whatever, don’t be afraid to play around with some cute hairstyles. Or, you can slick your hair back into a slicked bun or a sleek ponytail. You have so many options for cute hairstyles. Don’t underestimate that.
And, there you have it! That pretty much wraps up all of the cute hiking outfits for women. I hope that this is helpful, and you feel more inspired to style your next hiking outfit. Don’t forget to use my Halara coupon code for 15% off all full price items: Indigo15.
