When it comes to deciding what to wear in Positano, know that everyone there will be dressed up. If you’re caught wearing jeans and a graphic tee, it will be obvious that you are a tourist by your outfit.

It’s true: on the Amalfi Coast, men, women and children alike will be sporting pantsuits, sundresses, lemon-patterned swimwear, light beach linens and evening satins — just like you see on social media.
Curious about exactly what to wear in Positano? Here are 17 Positano outfits that will help you fit into the Amalfi Coast style.
1. A Blue And White Floral Dress
Blue and white floral dresses make super aesthetic Positano outfits because they match the blue and white hues of the scenery.
This particular dress from Amazon is super comfortable. To date, this dress is one of my favorite Amazon fashion purchases.
And, it’s long enough so you don’t have to worry about any windy Marilyn Monroe moments.
Now, here a couple similar dresses that would look absolutely adorable in Positano photos.
Pro tip: pack two blue and white outfits if you’re also planning on taking a day trip to Capri. Mixing up styles of dresses for different destinations is great way to distinguish memories and locations in beach photos.
2. Lemon Patterns
The entire Amalfi Coast, whether you’re visiting Positano, Capri, Amalfi town or another town, is very well known for its lemon groves, lemon sorbet and limoncello. Therefore, lemon-patterned outfits are a super cute and popular way to stand among the scenery.
You can purchase lemon outfits at the many local shops located in Positano, but know that the prices will be spiked. If you’re looking for more affordable outfits, buy the dresses mentioned here ahead of time.
What’s better than a lemon printed dress, a lemon bathing suit. This lemon bathing suit would be perfect for photos on the beaches of Positano.
3. White And Beige Linens
Linens are a beach vacation essential for two reasons. One, they are cool, lightweight and airy, which is practical. And, two, they double as both dressy and casual beach outfits.
(Also in a variety of colors.)
Rompers aren’t for everyone, so wearing a linen two piece set makes this flow beach outfit even more practical. If you like the monochromatic look, go with white on white!
(Also in beige and black.)
But, the best part of the two piece set is mixing and matching colors of your choice. Wear white linen pants with a black linen top for a nice contrast.
(Also in many other colors.)
4. A White Dress
Like linens, white dresses are a staple vacation closet piece. Whether you’re strolling through the quaint Positano city streets, relaxing on a Positano Beach chaise or indulging in a fancy Michelin-star dinner, a white dress will inevitably match every Positano vibe.
Similarly, white dresses that have a mesh overlay (like the one I’m wearing in the above photo), will catch the coastal sunlight perfectly and make for unmatchably stunning photos.
Don’t forget a white slip to wear under this dress to make sure your outfit isn’t see-through! I wore this Vanity Fair slip off of Amazon, and it works great for a low price.
5. A Satin Dress
Satin dresses are ridiculously popular right now. You will love this red satin dress from Amazon — I wore it in Rome and even for my engagement pictures! If I wouldn’t have worn it in Rome, I would definitely have worn it in Positano.
6. Silk Headscarves
Silk headscarves are one of my favorite current trends as a traveler. Why? Because they save tons of luggage space.
Silk headscarves are lightweight and multifunctional. You can wear them as headscarves, belts, headbands and even shirts, which means there are less outfits for you to pack.
These are the two affordable headscarves that I brought to Positano. As you can see in the photos, I wore them as headscarves, tops and belts on this particular trip.
7. Blue & white bikini (What to wear in Positano)
Like blue and white dresses or other outfit pieces, blue and white swimsuits will look fabulous with the matching blue Mediterranean and white buildings.
It’s always a good idea to bring a couple different styles of bathing suits depending on the outing and the location. This flirty two-piece would be great for lounging on the beach or late night chilling in the pool.
8. Denim jacket
Even though the temperature in Positano is hot during the daytime in spring, summer and fall, the air gets noticeably chilly after sunset. Remember, the sun sets early in Positano, often before 7:00 p.m. local time (19:00), because of the mountains.
I always travel with a denim jacket because they are a lightweight alternative to a coat. Plus, they match every single outfit. I have worn this Gap denim jacket for years.
9. Beach Hats
Like I’ve said, the Italian sun gets extremely bright and hot during the spring, summer and fall months. A beach hat or Italian style fedora will definitely come in handy when you’re laying out in the sun.
Additionally, hats make great props in photos. A photogenic straw beach hat or Italian fedora will absolutely bring your vacation photos to life. Hats are also perfect for afternoon beach hair after you’ve been in an out of the water all day.
10. Burlap Purse Or Beach Tote
You’ll need a canvas purse or tote bag to hold all of your beach essentials. I prefer using a small clutch because it slides right into my suitcase front pocket and still fits my money, phone and sunglasses/sunscreen.
And, again, it makes a perfect travel photo prop.
11. Strappy Heels (What To Wear In Positano)
Moreover, complete your upscale Positano accessory collection with some adorable strappy heels. Adding strapped heels to your luggage can transform any casual Positano outfit into a ritzy, date-ready ensemble.
I brought along these white pearl strappy heels from David’s Bridal. They are so cute, elegant and surprisingly walkable.
12. Comfortable Walking Shoes
If you have done any research on your upcoming trip to Positano, you probably already know that Positano is all walking, and there are countless steps. As you could imagine, comfortable walking shoes are a must.
(Your hotel is only a five minute walk to the beach? Be prepared for five minutes of walking down cobblestone stairs and 10-15 minutes of walking back up to your hotel.)
I almost brought my trusty smooth-bottomed Tevas that are practical and still look great in photos, but I ended up bringing my white Nike Air Force Max tennis shoes instead. Next time I go, I will be bringing both pairs.
If you want to bring the perfect pair of comfortable sandals that are still cute and dressy, check out my blog post on the best women’s cruise shoes for ideas.
13. Beach Shoes (What To Wear In Positano)
One thing that aesthetic Instagram pictures of Positano don’t show you is the fact that the beaches on the Amalfi Coast, although beautiful, are made up of sharp little rocks, not sand. I won’t lie; walking barefoot to and from the water really hurts.
As I mentioned earlier, I almost brought my trusty Teva sandals along (you can find them on Amazon here), and I wish I would have. Otherwise, opt for a pair of stylish all-rubber flip-flops like these.
14. Trendy Sunglasses
Sunglasses are also necessary in Positano — or in any town on the Amalfi Coast for that matter. The sun shines hot and bright from dawn to dusk, and you’ll likely be in the sun every hour of the daytime.
(These are under $10 with or without a prescription.)
(That reminds me, don’t forget sunscreen! I love Cerave’s AM SPF 30 facial moisturizing lotion for my face, and Babo Botanicals mineral sunscreen spray for a non-toxic, reef-safe body sunscreen. Neither have broken out my sensitive skin.)
These are a great budget friendly non-prescription sunglasses option. Sun glasses come in so many different shapes and sizes, so its a great way to add a little bit of style to your outfit.
15. Basic Hoop Earrings (What To Wear In Positano)
Hoop earrings, whether big or small, immediately turn a simple outfit from drab to fab.
You can even wear hoops to the beach to make you feel extra cute and confident — because, why not? Here are some extremely affordable hoops that I have worn to the beach.
16. Bath Robe
Breakfast on a Positano balcony in a bath robe? Pure luxury.
Splurge on a luxury personalized Turkish cotton bath robe from Macy’s and cozy up on the balcony with a room service breakfast. I can’t think of a better way to start the day.
You can also embrace the boujee-on-a-budget lifestyle with this Amazon bath robe find. Perfect for a making every morning on your trip a memory.
17. Fashionable Swimsuit Cover (What To Wear In Positano)
If you would rather not repurpose your dry Positano outfits as swimsuit cover-ups, you will need a separate swimsuit cover-up. Here are some fashionable swimsuit covers that will 100% fit in with Positano style.
Pro packing tip: to save luggage space, wear your swim cover with denim or linen pants before you wear it to the beach. It can double as another day’s outfit.
Similarly, these wraps can double as headscarves too.
