📍Lake Michigan

If you’ve never been to the Great Lakes, you have no true understanding of just how huge these freshwater lakes are! People are stunned whenever they first visit that they can’t see the other side of the lakes. Not even close.

Between the surf, strong currents, shipwrecks, unique marine life and vastness, the Great Lakes truly feel like oceans.

The different? No salt to sting your eyes and (arguably more importantly) no scary sharks. 🦈

Those are happy tears btw. ✈️ Just booked a b Those are happy tears btw. ✈️

Just booked a business class lay-flat seat from the USA to Japan for $32.69. Yes, really. 🤯

How?

Easy.

First, I opened one new travel credit card with flexible points and responsibly earned the card’s opening bonus.

Then, after I got a @thriftytraveler email alert for Delta One award availability from the USA to Japan, I transferred those flexible points to an airline transfer partner (in this case, Flying Blue to book a Delta One flight through Air France).

Boom. 89,500 points (which is a bargain, by the way) + $32.69 out of pocket later…

I got myself a biz class flight worth $7000 for less than the cost of our Chipotle order. 💸

Obviously, you want to put your best foot forward while on your cruise. Whether you’ll spend your entire cruise lounging by the pool, indulging in fine dining, winning cash in the casino or adventuring through the ship’s excursion activities, you’ll need proper cruise footwear.

How many shoes should you bring on a cruise?

On a cruise, you will need a pair of shoes for the pool, for formal dinners, for walking and for exercise. This means, you may need to bring 4 pairs of shoes.

However, if you’re trying to save suitcase space, find a pair of shoes that can serve as your pool, formal dinner and walking shoes. That way, you only need to bring 2 pairs maximum.

When I was packing for my first cruise, I definitely struggled to find one pair to serve multiple purposes. I did not want to bring more than two pairs (one pair packed, one pair worn on the plane) because I was packing in only a carry-on, so that’s when I set out to find the best cruise shoes for ladies.

What are good shoes to wear on a cruise?

Good shoes to wear on a cruise fill the following criteria: they are comfortable for walking, waterproof and stylish enough to wear to formal dinners.

That way, you can wear the same pair of shoes to the pool and shore excursions as you would to the main dining rooms (which typically do not allow flip-flops).

Now, here are the best cruise shoes for women in particular.

5 Best Cruise Shoes For Ladies

1. Blondo Waterproof Carina And Cadee Slide Sandals

My all-time favorite women’s cruise shoes are dressy waterproof slip-on sandals like these bowtie Blondo Waterproof Carina slides and these two-strap Blondo Waterproof Cadee slides.

Clearly, these waterproof sandals are dressy enough to wear with formal dinner outfits, as they are very stylish and pass the cruises’ no-flip-flops rule.

Additionally, because they are slides, they are easy to slip on and off at the pool — no tying or buckling necessary — even with the added arch support for comfortable walking.

2. Birkenstock Waterproof Slide Sandals

Furthermore, these Birkenstock waterproof slide sandals have all of the same amazing qualities of the Blondo slides (waterproof, trendy, easy to slip on and off, very comfortable). They’re just slightly less dressy due to the casual Birkenstock bottom.

BUY NOW ON AMAZON

As you probably know, Birkenstock is known for their premium arch support. Although, most Birkenstocks are made from leather, which means most styles are definitely not waterproof.

So, if you’re looking for the most comfortable cruise shoes for women on the market, this rare waterproof find may be your lucky pair.

3. Crocs Waterproof Brooklyn Low Wedge Sandals

Next, the Crocs Waterproof Brooklyn Low wedge sandals, which come in this classic style or this strappy style, make great cruise shoes for ladies for various reasons.

First, they are completely waterproof, so you can wear them to the pool, and as beach water shoes, without damaging the shoe. Second, their fashionable look pairs with any formal dress you pack. Third, although the shoes have a bit of a platform, they also have clear arch support for walkability.

Plus, the ankle straps, albeit a little harder to slip on and off than slides, add even more ankle support for maximum comfort.

4. Reef Water Vista Sandal

Similarly, this pair of Reef Water Vista sandals offers waterproof material, style, arch support and ankle straps just like the Crocs version.

The only benefit of these Reef shoes over the Crocs are that the Reef brand designs shoes to be built specifically for the ocean. Whereas Crocs are built for all areas of life, Reef has niched down to create the ultimate perfect water shoe.

5. Aqua College Waterproof Fisherman Sandals

Finally, if you’re looking for an edgier ladies cruise shoe to pair with all your cruise outfits (swimsuits and formal attire alike), these Aqua College Waterproof Fisherman sandals are just for you.

Not only do the additional straps boast a unique flavor of style, but they also add more support, just like the other ankle straps.

However, as you could imagine, this pair will be a little more of a hassle to buckle on and off at the pool. So, if you’re looking for all-around ease, opt for one of the slip-on cruise shoes for ladies.

Can you wear high heels on a cruise ship?

Yes, you can absolutely wear high heels on a cruise shop if you’d like. High heels are especially acceptable on cruise ships during formal dinners or other formal night activities.

Like I said earlier, you probably want to put your best fashion foot forward while on your vacation.

However, know that if the water is rough, sometimes it can be hard to balance. Walking in a straight line is occasionally difficult even with flats. So, of course, this is something to keep in mind before packing heels.
