Looking for the best gifts for couples that travel? Better yet, do you want to get the couple a travel gift they’ll actually use? You’ve made it to the right place.
Between these tried-and-true gifts for couples that travel, getaway gifts for couples and wedding gifts for couples that travel, you’ll undoubtably find a perfect, unique his-and-her travel gift.
My husband and I have gotten the majority of these exact gifts for couples that travel (or at least a variation of these gifts), and we can firmly say that we’ve loved receiving all of them as avid travelers.
What To Get A Couple That Travels
1. Picnic Backpack
Unless the gift-receiving couple goes out to eat for every single meal on their travels, they inevitably have to pack at least one or two meals on each trip.
Rather than packing a clunky lunch pale without a fun picnic blanket, plates, utensils or wine cooler, make their casual lunch stop an adventurous date with this picnic basket backpack.
My husband Kenny and I received a picnic basket backpack for Christmas a few years ago, and we have taken it on basically every trip since.
2. The Adventure Challenge: Couples Edition
Moreover, you may or may not have heard of The Adventure Challenge: Couples Edition, a book for travel couples filled with lively, unique scratch-off date ideas.
Basically, every time the couple wants to have a mini adventure in their hometown, they scratch off one of the previewed date ideas in the book and have to complete the adventure with photo proof without backing out. Once they complete all the adventures, the book ends up to be an adventure journal and photo album.
I bought this for my husband for Christmas a couple years ago, and he absolutely loved it. The date ideas are actually so fun and creative. And, surprisingly, they aren’t cheesy at all.
3. Couples Travel Books
Next, all travelers love travel books for various reasons.
One, travel books double as decorative coffee table books. Two, travel books inspire travelers’ next destinations. And, three, travel books serve as informative guides on those destinations.
National Geographic has published numerous travel books, including Ultimate Journeys For Two and The World’s Most Romantic Destinations catered specifically towards couples who travel.
4. Travel-Friendly Card Games
My husband and I love to play card games on our travels when we have downtime. There’s nothing like hopping out of the hotel pool, putting on comfy pajamas and playing cards on the fluffy hotel beds.
So, when I found these language playing cards, I had to add them to this travel gifts for couples that travel list.
Also, lately, we’ve been addicted to Monopoly Deal (which is totally portable, and you can play it in less than 15 minutes). You can also buy travel-friendly UNO, Clue and our new favorite Exploding Kittens.
5. Push Pin Destination Map
If you’ve read any of my other travel gift guides, you know how much I love this gift.
This personalized push-pin world destination map takes the trendy scratch-off destination map to a whole new level. Every time the couple travels, they can add another bright red pin to the map.
The personalized map comes with red pins to mark the places they have visited, blue flags to mark upcoming trips, yellow flags to mark their favorite destinations and green pins to mark dream destinations.
And, because the couple travels a lot, consider buying them these extra red pins. I bought these pins for my destination map (this same map), and they match the original pins pretty well.
6. Homesick Candle
The candle brand Homesick has curated hundreds of different location-inspired scents — from New York City, to Colorado, to France — so that you can easily find the perfect candle for your traveling couple.
Home puts the “sweet” in the bittersweet part of leaving a vacation. Remind them of their own warm bed, hometown familiarities and, of course, you!
7. Portable French Press Coffee Maker
Furthermore, when traveling on a budget, sometimes travelers have to settle for free, not-so-great hotel room coffee.
This insulated portable travel mug and french press coffee maker will take away the temptation to find the nearest Starbucks and instead provide the couple with a delicious morning beverage that far exceeds cheap hotel-room coffee.
8. Portable Hammocks
When you gift these bestselling portable hammocks (which come with two tree straps, carabiners, travel bags, durable material and a user-friendly set-up), you are really gifting the couple a well-deserved break from their mountainous hike, camping adventures or even backyard chores.
We received these portable hammocks from my mom last Christmas, and we thought the couples travel gift was so thoughtful.
9. Travel-Friendly Camera Gear
SHOP MY FAVORITE BUDGET CAMERA GEAR
Any travel couple would love receiving new camera gear for their travels.
Help your favorite travel couple document all of their trips for years to come with a new camera, camera lens, camera backpack or another travel camera gear essential.
I have an entire guide on the best budget camera gear for travel here to help you pick out the best camera gifts for couples that travel.
10. Camera Tripod
Looking for one specific, budget-friendly camera gear item that is essential for couples who travel?
A tripod will allow the couples to take travel photos of themselves together without hiring another photographer. It will also allow them to shoot incredible low-light and night photography.
This travel tripod in particular is compact; compatible with cameras, phones and action cameras; and can also be used as a monopod or selfie stick.
11. Waterproof Phone Pouches
Similarly, these waterproof phone pouches will keep their phones safe, dry and usable during all of their underwater adventures. I personally use them for all of my underwater photos.
I am probably the only travel blogger/photographer who will admit this, but GoPros are overrated.
Unless they are aspiring travel videographers, they are better off using a waterproof phone pouch over a GoPro. Today, smartphone cameras have incredible technology that will produce photo and video content that is just as good as a GoPro.
Even if they are an aspiring travel videographer, they should really invest in underwater housing for their DSLR or mirrorless camera instead of blowing several hundred dollars on the newest GoPro.
12. Travel Keepsake Box
After any couple takes photos on their travels, they’re going to need a place to keep their prints!
My husband and I have this affordable travel keepsake box where we keep our photos, old boarding passes, museum tickets and more from our sentimental trips together.
13. Bug Repellent Clothing
Whether couples are avid hikers or beach vacationers, it’s probable that they’ll encounter bugs of some sort on their travels.
The bug repellent clothes from L.L. Bean (like this shirt and these socks) have been a game changer for all of our trips this past year. From hiking to Delta Lake to avoiding mosquitos in our own backyard, we’ve been able to enjoy traveling without fear of mosquitos, ticks or other pests.
The material is made with a naturally sourced bug repellent as well as UPF technology to protect skin from the sun. And, yes, the clothes actually work!
Getaway Gifts For Couples
14. Travel Gifts Cards
Believe it or not, you can gift travel itself.
Giving a travel gift card is a sure-fire way to make traveling giftees happy. The gift card could be an Airbnb gift card, hotel gift card, airline gift card or even a restaurant gift card, to name a few examples.
15. Spa Gift Cards
Alternatively, if you know the traveling couple truly loves vacationing — immersing in complete relaxation, probably pool or beachside — you know they’ll love a spa gift card.
This gift is particularly perfect for those vacation-loving couples that are too busy to book a trip immediately, as they’ll be able to indulge in a mini staycation with your gift sooner rather than later.
16. Global Entry
In case you don’t know what Global Entry is, it’s essentially the TSA PreCheck of international travel. When you travel internationally, you have to clear customs at the airport upon arrival. This is where you get your passport stamped, your belongings declared and your visa if applicable.
Global Entry will allow your traveling couple to bypass the customs line and get out of the airport ASAP. It may sound like no big deal, but I’m telling you that any traveler will obsess over this gift.
Global Entry does require travelers to apply and interview, but you can still give them the money to cover the fee, which will last them five whole years of Global Entry.
17. TSA Pre-Check
Likewise, TSA PreCheck allows travelers to bypass US airport security lines. Again, any traveler would love this gift.
Note, a Global Entry membership includes TSA PreCheck, so if you know the couple travels internationally, Global Entry is by far the better deal. But, if you’re shopping on a budget or for domestic travelers, TSA PreCheck is clearly a perfect alternative.
TSA PreCheck also requires application and an enrollment appointment, but, just like Global Entry, you can still gift the fee. Again, the one-time fee will cover five years of TSA PreCheck.
Wedding Gifts For Couples Who Travel
The next few gifts would make fantastic wedding gifts for couples who travel. However, these gifts are certainly not exclusive to weddings.
Any couple who travels would die for these gifts for any occasion!
18. Matching Luggage
First, if you really want to spoil the couple, gift them matching Beis luggage (click here for $15 off).
Beis luggage is known to be higher quality than other leading luggage brands, built with sturdy materials to prevent airport luggage damage.
I’m personally in the market for new luggage and, after a lot of research, I will be buying this exact suitcase in the near future.
19. Digital Luggage Scale
Second, another completely practical, useful travel gift for couples is this digital luggage scale.
There’s nothing worse than getting to baggage drop, weighing your suitcase for the first time, learning your bag is six pounds over the allowed baggage weight and having to shove clothes into your nicely packed carry-on.
Save your traveling couple the trouble by buying them this super convenient, portable luggage scale.
20. His And Her Luggage Tags
Or, if you love the luggage gift idea but are shopping on a budget, you could give the couple matching personalized leather luggage tags to help them easily identify their suitcases at baggage claim.
I love that these tags look more mature, classy and luxury than other cheap luggage tags — and for an affordable price.
21. Packing Cubes (Gifts For Couples That Travel)
Likewise, help the traveling couple stay organized — and sane — with this travel luggage cube set from Amazon, which is recommended by thousands of professional travelers worldwide.
I use these exact packing cubes on every single trip because they keep my organized from departure to arrival.
22. Travel Photo Album
Next, like the travel keepsake box, a photo album designated for travel photos would make a fabulous, budget gift for couples that travel.
Bonus points if you print some of their travel photos ahead of time! (You can get super cheap 4×6 prints from Walmart.)
Plus, with this classy travel photo album exterior, the couple will easily recognize it’s meant for travel photos even though it doesn’t look like other cheap, tacky travel photo albums.
23. Travel-Inspired Ethnic Cookbooks (Gifts For Couples That Travel)
Whether they would like to recreate a favorite dish they tried in another country or simply wants to get a taste of other cultures, any travel couple will absolutely enamor an ethnic, travel-themed cookbook.
This Italian cookbook from Amazon boasts romantic, historic and hidden-gem foods from the south of Italy. Whereas, this French Country Cooking cookbook, also from Amazon, offers enchanting recipes from the heart of France.
You can also shop other travel-inspired cookbooks on Amazon here.
24. Two-Person Sleeping Bag
On the contrary, if you know the couple spends more time outside than indoors, this highly rated two-person sleeping bag may be a better fit.
Not only will it fit both of the newlyweds on all of their outdoor adventures, but it is also compatible with 20-degree weather and comes in various colors.
25. Apple AirTags (Gifts For Couples That Travel)
Finally, these Apple AirTags have become a standard travel essential recently.
Why? So travelers always know the whereabouts of their luggage and, thus, can prevent lost luggage.
All the couple has to do is place an AirTag in their checked luggage, and they will be able to see if their suitcase made it on the plane with them/survived layovers without getting lost.
Additionally, if their suitcase is lost, they’ll know exactly which airport to contact to expedite the baggage-return process.
Official Apple AirTags are available to purchase on Amazon (for cheap, by the way) individually or in a pack of four.
