These tips include all of my top travel tips for packing, planning, safety, saving money, booking cheap travel, and using points and miles. I swear by all of these tips — this is exactly how I’m able to travel as often as I do.

Quick Travel Tips For Packing

  1. Plan out each outfit before packing to prevent overpacking.
  2. Roll your clothes instead of folding.
  3. Use compression packing cubes.
  4. Use a large carry-on if traveling carry-on only.
  5. Bring minimal liquids.
  6. Pack liquids in a plastic disposable bag to keep your suitcase clean.
  7. Use a hanging-toiletry bag.
  8. Pack a backpack as your personal item.
  9. Wear big jackets and coats onto the plane.
  10. Remember, worst case, you can buy it if you need it when you’re there.

Travel Planning Tips

  1. Ideally, start planning your trip 9-12 months out.
  2. Search on Google, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, etc. for the best travel guides and inspiration.
  3. Don’t underestimate Pinterest for the best travel guides and tips.
  4. Don’t underestimate YouTube for travel guides and tips.
  5. Chase the deals, meaning let the deals choose your destination.
  6. Once you’ve chosen your destination, ideally, you’ll want to start by booking flights.
  7. Next, book your hotels.
  8. Make a Google Map with all of the places you want to go in your destination pinned.
  9. Then, book your transportation (public transportation, car rental, private/shared transfer).
  10. Follow and DM travel bloggers if you have questions about places they’ve been.

Quick Tips To Travel More + Save Money

  1. Save 5-10% of your monthly income for travel.
  2. Set aside this 5-10% in a high-yield savings account.
  3. Automate the monthly transfer if you can to save money passively.
  4. Keep your travel dates flexible if possible.
  5. Check Google Flights for the cheapest flights possible.
  6. Use Hotwire to book cheap last-minute luxury hotel rooms.
  7. Check Costco Travel and VIP Traveler for cheap luxury travel packages.
  8. Pick a maximum budget for each trip and stick to it.
  9. Buy (better yet, Instacart with code I16EED41C0 for $10 off) groceries in your destination to save money on food.
  10. Leverage travel credit card points and miles to book free travel.

Safety Tips For Traveling

  1. Travel in groups whenever you can.
  2. Choose safe destinations for solo travel.
  3. Respect TSA and other security regulations.
  4. See something, say something.
  5. Keep your phone charged at all times.
  6. Be discreet when handling valuables in public places.
  7. Keep at least one hand free at all times.
  8. Try to blend in with local culture.
  9. Act confident. Don’t act like easy prey.
  10. Never look like you’re lost.

  2. Treat your credit cards like debit cards.
  3. Always pay off your cards in full on time each month.
  4. Set your payments to autopay to avoid late payments.

  7. Earn and burn your points to avoid point devaluation.
  8. Open business travel credit cards to earn even more welcome offers.
  9. Close unused cards after one year to avoid paying unnecessary annual fees.
